Mummy Bat

We just spotted this bat roosting under our roof. If you look closely you can see part of a baby clinging to its mum. The mummy bat’s eyes are wide open, even though it is noon! It has a pretty zig zag pattern down its back and largish ears. I think it is devilishly cute actually!

I would love to know what kind of bat this is if anyone knows please leave a comment. Thanks πŸ™‚

  1. That’s a vampire bat. They live in hollow spaces like trees or garages. They are only like 3 inches long. Unless, it’s a fruit bat! Very cool!

  2. Thanks a lot for your kind words Ceri! πŸ™‚

The bat actually came back to our house today, the mummy bat was hanging on the wall beside the baby – super cute. I’m not scared of bats but I can understand not everyone feels the same. πŸ™‚

  3. I’m absolutely loving the photos of everything you’re discovering in Panama. πŸ˜€ Your shots are amazing – so up close and detailed.

Such an amazing shot of the bat but, I confess, I’d probably be too scared to close to it because I’d have visions of it suddenly dropping down and flying in my face. πŸ˜› But that’s because I’m a big girl’s blouse.

  4. Like the photo, my days in Panama were always filled with seeing the exoctic creatures, and the amazing beaitiful tropical forests and the beauty of the colorful plants. My experience’s were plenty.
